Jamy has studied at Zhejiang University and China Academy of Art, and after receiving a full scholarship from the German WK Foundation, he completed his Master Degree of Industrial Design at Muthesius Academy in Germany. Then, he worked at Siemens Design Headquarters in Munich. He founded YANG DESIGN in 2005 and established the Yang Mingjie Design Museum in 2013. He has won numerous awards, including the German Red Dot, iF Design Award, GOOD DESIGN Award, IDEA, Gold Pentawards, London Design Award Glod Winner and Silver Asia's Most Influential Design Award.

His works are collected by several museums, including the Centre Georges Pompidou. Also, He has been invited to participate in exhibitions, lectures, and academic exchanges by organizations such as UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Biennale Internationale Du Design in France, and the Goethe-Institut. Jamy integrates the design concepts of German logical thinking and Chinese humanistic aesthetics, making him a partner for top international and local brands such as Boeing, Hermès, BMW, Audi, MINI, Hennessy, NATUZZI, and Schneider which involve lifestyle, home appliances, transportation, space installations and other fields projects.

The public welfare projects collaborated with Greenpeace, the Forbidden City, the One Foundation, and the Asia Animal Protection Fund reflect his social responsibility as a designer. The purification bottle he designed for the One Foundation have been sent to over a million underprivileged children. He was also invited by Kenya Harto to participate in the curation of HOUSE VISION , and was designed a future house to think critically about technological evolution.
