Jumping He was born in Fuyang, China. He is now living in Berlin, working as a graphic designer, writer and publisher. 

He studied graphic design at the China Academy of Art (1991–1994), then at the Meisterschule of Fine Arts at the Berlin University of Arts (1997–2001) and received his PhD in cultural history from the Freie Universität of Berlin in 2011. He has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, the China Academy of Arts, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 

His works have been awarded worldwide. He won the Gold prize at the International Poster Biennial in Warsaw; the Gold prize of the German Design Award; the Grand Prix of the Red Dot Design Award in Germany; the Grand Prix of the Poster Triennial Trnava in Slovakia; the Gold prize at the ADC New York 100th Annual Award in the USA; the Gold prize at the Joseph Binder Award in Austria; and the Yellow Pencil of the D&AD in the UK. In 2006, he received the Poster Kunst Hof in Rüttenscheid Prize in Essen, Germany. His solo exhibitions have taken place in China, Germany, Japan, Slovenia, Poland, Iran, and Malaysia. In 2021, his book “daydream” was published and his “daydream” solo exhibition took place at the V&A Museum in Shenzhen, China.

He is also a writer on design history and cultural history as well as a researcher on poster history. He has published monographs such as “History of Chinese Poster Art” (in German and Chinese) and “Beyond Design” (in Chinese).
