In the autumn of 2024, the "Dewdrop Tower" of Daixing Jizi Design Studio was unveiled in the Olympic Forest Park exhibition area of Beijing Chaoyang International Lighting Festival.
This unique device is composed of 20 transparent "dewdrops" condensed into a tower-shaped structure with a diameter of 9 meters and a height of 7.2 meters. In the daytime, under the reflection of natural light, it is as clear and clear as real dewdrops, emitting a pure breath. When night falls, light and shadow ripples among the towers, attracting people to approach and stroll among them, and there is an interactive console in the center of the tower. Once triggered, music and light and shadow will interweave and dance together. The dewdrop tower is not only a work of art, but also an affectionate tribute to the beauty of nature and a persistent pursuit of the lost tranquility in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Its inspiration comes from the dew on the petals of the early morning grass leaves. The pure form and the natural poetry contained in it are magnified and reproduced here, although they are difficult to detect in the city. Carrying the "dewdrop" in the form of a traditional "tower", it not only uses modern design techniques to create a unique space and height, but also endows the "tower" with inner spiritual connotation, making it a link between inside and outside, reality and dreams. The addition of light and sound makes this space full of flexibility and fantasy.
In terms of structure, the main body is built with tubular scaffolding, multi-layer octagonal structures are interlaced with each other, and the inner layer is combined with a square frame and reinforced with a triangular structure. The octagonal platform foundation guides people to the space enclosed inside and connected with the outside while continuing the traditional image of the tower foundation. Each "dewdrop" module is made of PVC air film (color taken from the white sky in the east) and transparent material through multi-layer superposition and inflation. The back is equipped with annular RGB full-spectrum dynamic programming lamps. 20 dewdrop modules of different sizes are hung on the octagonal frame through steel ropes to form a three-layer tower. Its design fully considers sustainability and is convenient for transportation, storage and reuse.
In terms of interaction, the simple steel frame during the day and the slightly trembling blue dew module make the dew tower have both artistic beauty and mysterious temperament. At night, the dewdrop module becomes the core of light and shadow transmission, and the light and rhyme spread outward from the center. People are in a quiet and deep halo, and their thoughts drift away. The 17 metal keys of the console correspond to 17 notes and 20 "dewdrops" linkage, triggering the sound of the rear music, and the corresponding dewdrop module emits halo. Both people who understand music theory and music white can experience the wonderful connection and resonance of light and sound here. Small artistic experiences and music activities can also be held inside the whole space device, bringing people all-round immersion feeling.
From the perspective of inner view and outer view, in the fast-paced city life, the dewdrop tower uses natural language to convey the inner view experience and guide people to slow down and heal themselves. The space at the bottom of the device is open and connected, leading people to the center stage and becoming the protagonist, triggering inner awareness, while the operation of the console reveals personal perception through light and sound, making each "dewdrop" an expression window, connecting the resonance of the individual with the world and others. For viewers, the experience of the Dew Tower is as short as a dream but profound, hoping to become a touch of peace in future memories, reminding people to return to nature occasionally in their busy lives and regain the power of inner peace.
