Memories of the summer night in the north, there was a starry sky, the Milky Way such as practice, across the sky. At that time, the moon was like a huge light bulb, shining brightly on my body, and the shadow at my feet was gray, black and flat, like a silhouette fixed by time. And now, the night sky has become empty and quiet, except for the eternal North Star, the occasional twinkling moon, the moon is no longer surrounded by stars, no longer shining as before. The Milky Way, which rises like clouds and smoke, has not been seen again for a long time. Such a sky is too lonely, which makes people miss those once bright stars and the childhood harmonious coexistence with nature.
Matthew Paul Miller sang "One Day" in 2009, praying for world peace, no more wars, and looking forward to the children of the future sitting on the grass together, counting the stars in the sky, with hope. This is not only a good expectation for the future, but also the original intention and principle that human beings, as a part of nature, must adhere. As Hannah Arendt said, "Even in the darkest of times, we have the right to expect some enlightenment." This dedication to the light is not only the most dazzling light in human nature, but also the eternal pursuit of human beings to find a home in the universe.
At such times, I often envy the ancients. They live in a bustling city, but they can sing about wine, wind, flowers, snow and moon, and make friends with poetry. Mountains, rivers, lakes and seas, sun, moon and stars, nature, universe and people are all endowed with extreme beauty in their lives. Where the stars retreat, dust flows from the heart. This view of the universe from the East has long been integrated into every detail of life and has become a kind of wisdom that needs no words. The moon of Chang'an drips into the Qujiang River to drink, and our ancestors worshipped the myth of the stars and the moon with a splendid history of civilization.
The dream of returning to the stars, like pearls salvaged from ancient cultural rivers, illuminates the soul soaked with the depth and romance of the oriental cosmology.
The sun, moon and stars, mountains and seas are still the same. In the long and ancient years in the east, heaven and earth have their own stars and rivers dotted with tidal resonance. In the track of day and night circulation, they never stop responding to the constant inquiry from the depths of human soul.
In my spare time, I often walk alone to the edge of the city and look up at the unpredictable sky. The sunset glow is gorgeous, the night sky is clear, and the scenery that I have been familiar with since I was a child can always make me wander in place for a long time, indulge in the tranquility and comfort of natural gifts.
I also often recall when I was young, lying on the mat with my family on the grass between the fields on summer nights, watching the bright moon shining with stars in the sky, and the silver ribbon of the Milky Way curling up in the vast universe, like a picture of a fixed night, with the flickering bird calls in the distance, the cool wind blowing gently and quietly.
The sun, moon and star series is inspired by the designer's childhood summer night in the northern hometown. The bright moon is hanging over the sky, the stars are prosperous, and the ethereal Milky Way is like clouds and smoke. The distant and mysterious starry sky is combined with a gentle and peaceful family atmosphere, which is a spiritual medicine that can comfort the restless soul at any time. Since ancient times, the universe, nature and human beings in the oriental culture are inseparable whole. They influence each other all the time, support each other and rely on each other, and never stop.
Designer Liu Xiao is good at exploring the balance between science, mathematics, physics and other majors and art, pursuing the coexistence of reason and emotion on the aesthetic balance of self, and integrating his philosophical spiritual thought.
THESHAW is a personal design brand founded by designer Liu Xiao in 2017. It aims to use daily materials and extreme craftsmanship to shape new styles in design and conception from a modern perspective, describe the spirit and artistry of products with free and minimalist outlines, create exquisite visual device products with contemporary temperament, and present the divine thinking and spiritual world understood by designers.
Designer Liu Xiao founded his personal design research office in 2017 and his personal brand THESHAW in the same year, insisting on creating new stylistical products from the perspective of modern design and combining various design thinking.
The brand combines elements of future, space and volume to express a sense of deity, spirituality and religion.
