Half Moon Series
The Half Moon Series takes the form of a half moon, suggesting a metaphor for a united whole. There are no more boundaries, and one element always reflects one or more other elements.
The design originates from the re-interpretation and interpretation of the architecture, and the architectural structure is cleverly integrated into the half-moon series through the translation of the form. The framework is constructed using birch-grain multi-layer panels to hide the nodes of the structure, creating an overall feel like an architecture. The wood surface of the linear element echoes the texture of the birch grain multilayer board, expressing the material characteristics frankly, such as the transparency of the building. The multi-level linearity breaks through the boundaries of the realistic scale, blurs the concrete form, and forms the multi-dimensional spatial imagination.
Half Moon Side Table Half Moon Side Table takes structure as logic and extends from bottom to top, forming a series of spaces through scattered tabletops. The upper and lower levels of the side table can be placed, both practical and aesthetic thinking.
Half Moon Stool half moon stool from a complete structural system, each element has the meaning of construction. The sense of order of the construction itself and the soft breath of the material form an interesting collision, giving active tension to the space.
The Half Moon Chair continues the metaphor of the half moon, suggesting the whole of the full moon. Translate the structural nodes into the handle of the chair, and establish the interesting connection between structure and function. The expanded seating surface brings a sense of volume, supporting the weight and stability of the space.
The work uses the traditional romantic image "moon" in Chinese culture as the formal source, and some nodes also learn from the simplified mortise and tenon structure, such as traditional Chinese architecture, which directly expresses the structural logic into design. Each component of the Half Moon series is composed of homogeneous FSC certified birch multi-layer boards, which are endowed with a veneer surface and combined with modern innovative technology on the basis of traditional craftsmanship, so that modern texture and natural wood texture are organically integrated. In the context of Chinese society and contemporary, the design of the half-moon series is to serve the public. The design uses materials with high availability and simplified technology to make the cost controllable and meet the common needs of the public.
15 STUDIO is an architectural studio established in Berlin and Shanghai in 2021, co-founded by Sun Shujian and Zhang Hao. The studio aims to produce valuable design practices to the existing built environment and to explore conceptual innovations beyond practice.
