As the saying goes, "words are like people", and words are a material carrier created by people to inherit civilization. The work looks inward in the explicit material world, takes writing as the research object of behavior, collects 50 groups of writing tracks and physiological breathing data at the time of writing, visualizes the invisible shape in the writing process, and summarizes it as "image", which is the abstract and symbolic expression of objective existence. The work discriminates and analyzes how "image" is "like its person" from the perspective of data visualization ". At the same time, "as its person" as a guide, thinking about the intangible state of the immaterial "presence", as a future individual of the possibility of a physical form of presence.
In the context of Chinese civilization, the traditional cognition of "words like people" reveals the deep correlation between calligraphy art and personality traits, but this correlation mostly stays in the metaphysical aesthetic interpretation, and lacks the visual demonstration of physiological mechanism and creative process. Contemporary digital technology provides a new way to analyze the biological nature of writing behavior-breathing, as the most authentic rhythm of life, is not only the physiological basis for maintaining writing, but also the internal kinetic energy for regulating the charm of pen and ink. However, the existing research focuses on the static analysis of handwriting morphology, and there are few systematic correlation studies on respiratory rhythm, body movement and visual representation in the process of writing. This project takes "breathing" as the starting point, relying on biological sensing technology, parametric design and multi-modal interaction means, collects 50 groups of experimental data of people with different ages and writing proficiency, and tries to reconstruct the dynamic mapping network of "body-rest-pen-image" in digital media, so as to inject quantifiable and perceptible contemporary interpretation into traditional calligraphy aesthetics.
At present, three of our designer team are graduate students. The representative works of the team include "Road to Tang Poetry" and "Book to View". Among them, the work "Road of Tang Poetry" was exhibited in Zhejiang Exhibition Hall "Castle Peak Inexhaustible 2-Tang Poetry Road Art Exhibition" and other exhibitions. In 2022, it was selected into the CCTV May Fourth Youth Special Program "Road of Tang Poetry" and included in the new textbook "Information Visualization Chart Design", won various awards at home and abroad. "Book to view" has won various awards at home and abroad.
