“上海天空体”的设计灵感来源于上世纪40年代民国时期的上海美术字，是对上海深厚历史文化底蕴的致敬。“上海天空体”中的每一个细节都蕴含着上海的时尚、美学和现代，让人们在使用和欣赏的同时，也能感受到这座城市的文化底蕴和历史脉络。

“上海天空体”将楷书、行书和小篆的不同风格以独特而大胆的融合方式结合在一起，并通过几个笔画，简化、借笔实现了汉字以及多文种的设计。不仅使得字体在视觉上更具层次感和丰富性，也体现了中国传统书法审美和国际大都市的时尚与多元。

“上海天空体”所涉及的文种除了简体汉字之外还包括拉丁文、满文、日文假名、天城文。拉丁字体设计融合了汉字的笔画特征，与汉字的版面灰度和谐一致。为了搭配汉字，在不影响字母之间的易读性的情况下，大胆删减了字体的下伸部。满文笔画简洁，通过减少了字宽来匹配汉字，同时又不损失易读性。作为少数民族文献里数量最多但是几乎不再使用的民族文字，它和汉字、拉丁文通过设计服务于中国当代文化项目。天城文基于拉丁文进行匹配设计，风格上有较大的突破，将上伸部与下伸部压缩，笔画间距与字符间距沿用拉丁文的度量，保证了天城文版面灰度与其他文种的统一。

The design of "Shanghai Sky Style" is inspired by Shanghai Art Characters during the Republic of China in the 1940 s, which is a tribute to Shanghai's profound historical and cultural heritage. Every detail in the "Shanghai Sky Body" contains the fashion, aesthetics and modernity of Shanghai, so that people can feel the cultural heritage and historical context of the city while using and appreciating it.

"Shanghai Sky Style" combines the different styles of regular script, running script and small seal script in a unique and bold fusion way, and simplifies and borrows a few strokes to realize the design of Chinese characters and multiple languages. It not only makes the font more visually layered and rich, but also reflects the traditional Chinese calligraphy aesthetics and the fashion and diversity of an international metropolis.

In addition to simplified Chinese characters, the languages involved in "Shanghai Sky Style" include Latin, Manchu, Japanese kana, and Tiancheng. The Latin font design incorporates the stroke features of Chinese characters and is in harmony with the gray scale of the layout of Chinese characters. In order to match Chinese characters, the lower extension of the font is boldly deleted without affecting the legibility between letters. Manchu strokes are concise and match Chinese characters by reducing the word width without losing legibility. As the largest number of ethnic minority documents but almost no longer used national characters, it serves Chinese contemporary cultural projects through design with Chinese characters and Latin. The matching design of Tiancheng language is based on Latin, which has made a great breakthrough in style. The upper extension part and the lower extension part are compressed, and the stroke spacing and character spacing follow the measurement of Latin, thus ensuring the unity of the gray scale of Tiancheng language layout and other languages.

“上海天空体”获得了纽约TDC字体设计大奖和东京TDC优秀奖，跟随得奖作品展在法国、德国、日本、新西兰、波兰和西班牙等国进行巡展，同时还会入选东京TDC年度作品集。它是复刻字体，灵感来源于上海美术字，用设计探讨旧字形的现代化转译，迎合了现代的复古风潮，将传统风格与现代时尚相结合；它是智能设计，它只使用了十余个智能部件就搭建了不同语系的文种、汉字的全套字库、数字、标点和符号，字符量超7000个；它是多文种字库，包含了汉字、拉丁文、日文、满文、天城文，将不同书写系统的字形设计的与汉字风格一致，很有挑战性，可以更好的服务更广泛的人群和受众；它极具创意的设计在当代应用与公共艺术上有无限可能性，在2024甲辰龙年全球吉庆生肖大赛中获得一等奖的“三山五园24节气海报”设计之中，上海天空体作为文字的主要元素。同时该套字体也应用于香山公园定制版明信片以及香山雪糕新包装等文创产品中，2025年新春春联福桶、行李飘带等应用该套字体的文创产品上线中国文字博物馆、骑楼美术馆，在北京、天津、安阳、海口等多处展销；它还应用于教学，在中央美术学院的字体设计课程中，学生们创意的使用也让这套字体更具趣味性。

"Shanghai Sky" won the New York TDC Font Design Award and the Tokyo TDC Excellence Award. It will follow the award-winning exhibition in France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Poland and Spain, and will also be selected into the Tokyo TDC Annual Collection. It is a replica font, inspired by Shanghai fine arts characters. It discusses the modern translation of old glyphs with design, caters to the modern retro trend and combines traditional style with modern fashion. It is an intelligent design. It uses only more than 10 intelligent components to build a complete set of fonts, numbers, punctuation and symbols of different languages, Chinese characters, with more than 7000 characters. It is a multi-language library, it includes Chinese characters, Latin, Japanese, Manchu and Tiancheng. It is very challenging to design the glyphs of different writing systems in line with the style of Chinese characters and can better serve a wider range of people and audiences. Its creative design has unlimited possibilities in contemporary application and public art. In the design of "Sanshan Wuyuan 24 Solar terms Poster", which won the first prize in the 2024 Jiachen Dragon Year Global auspicious Zodiac Competition, shanghai sky body as the main element of the text. At the same time, this set of fonts is also used in creative products such as customized postcards of Xiangshan Park and new packaging of Xiangshan ice cream. In 2025, the creative products using this set of fonts, such as Lianfu barrels and luggage streamers, will be launched in the Chinese Character Museum and Arcade Art Museum, and will be sold in Beijing, Tianjin, Anyang, Haikou and other places. It is also used in teaching. In the font design course of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the creative use of the students also makes this font more interesting.

刘钊工作室设计总监是中央美术学院副教授、博士，国际文字设计协会理事，主持多个国家级社科项目。刘钊工作室以文字设计研究为特点，与国内外字体厂家合作的作品多次获得国内外大奖，并被博物馆收藏。国家艺术基金2020传播交流项目“字道——汉字设计的现代之路艺术展”实施以来，走访四个国家12个城市，取得了巨大的社会反响。工作室参与策划、审校的文字设计书籍十余本，推动了现代中国文字设计教育。

The design director of Liu Zhao's studio is an associate professor and doctor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, a director of the International Text Design Association, and presided over a number of national social science projects. Liu Zhao's studio is characterized by text design research, and its works in cooperation with domestic and foreign font manufacturers have won many domestic and foreign awards and have been collected by museums. Since the implementation of the National Art Foundation's 2020 communication and exchange project "Characters-Modern Road Art Exhibition of Chinese Character Design", it has visited 12 cities in four countries and achieved huge social responses. The studio participated in the planning and revision of more than ten text design books, which promoted the modern Chinese text design education.
