作品简短介绍

Children are often passive in decision making scenarios, this refurbishment address' the missing elements of inner city dwelling, namely a functioning Neighborhood. Balance is taken for granted until challenged, we hope the building can become a tool for sensory learning. It is a adaptive reuse project situated in a industrial complex in North Beijing. The iconography of the project becomes about the activity, to nudge children to imagine and feel what they see as the limits to their own adventure. Three main architectural interventions make up the playscape; 1. Pipe: Focuses on smaller Nook’s to test proprioception (body awareness). These armatures are arranged as a series of connecting bridges and staircases which traverse the site. 2. Roof: Presents a high point to overview the stage set and its possibilities and poses a choice for children to embrace unorthodox routes. 3. Mound: Enhances development through senses relating to equilibrium (Balance) and freedom of decision making.

We tell stories, narratives which originate from our experiences within the world, the spacial implications of these narratives helps infuse a sense of emotion and place within the work. Fundamental core values of identity relating to Emotion focus our work to create places with associations to peoples senses rather than abstract spaces.
The playscape takes a radical approach to play. Promoting the child to have Freedom and independence in play harness’ Curiosity. Proactive decision making happens when adults stand back from directed learning scenario’s. We managed engagement with risk, if children can learn to be more confident to tackle problems independently. they will emotionally engage, imagine and feel what they see as the limits to their own adventure. The playscape while maintaining a dialogue with the past creates a distinct language juxtaposition from the industrial vernacular play additions act as armatures generates a keen interest from the children promoting play.
