Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County is located in the northern part of Guangdong Province, China. The project has 27 kilometers of provincial roads and 27 kilometers of mountain roads as the main routes. It is part of the rural revitalization plan, not only road reconstruction, but also wetland parks, party-mass service centers, characteristic theme stations, schools and Yao villages along the route. Surrounded by mountains, it has a self-contained culture and way of life.
Due to historical reasons, the local "Yao" and "Hakka" as the main living groups. The mountainous landform features, the formation of the characteristics of agriculture and handicraft-based production conditions. Based on budget and sustainable development reasons, the design is positioned as a "earth color" greenway. This is a design exploration of land and culture, aiming to build the Yao Hakka coexistence corridor into a greenway that seamlessly integrates multiple cultures and makes people immersive experience. Through the power of design, we hope to bring positive social benefits to the land and its residents, while also contributing to sustainable development and the protection of cultural heritage.
In the design, we pay attention to the inheritance of local unified craftsmanship and culture. We integrate Yao embroidery and hand-woven craftsmanship elements, inject more "manual" consciousness, emphasize locality and participation, and combine local humanistic methods to achieve the perfect combination of tradition and modernity in a minimalist form, highlighting local culture and national characteristics.
First of all, the design emphasizes the rural perspective of "vernacular greenway" and reflects the local natural and cultural characteristics. Secondly, the multi-cultural integration invigorates the project, echoing the diversity of the local community. Third, focus on local materials, incorporate local elements, and emphasize sustainability and environmental principles. Fourth, the commitment to the principle of "low maintenance" ensures the sustainability and continuity of the project. Fifth, the design highlights the "rural flavor" rather than the urban feel, retaining the project's rural charm. Finally, the design is presented in a relaxed manner, emphasizing a participatory experience that makes the project more engaging.
In this project, we positioned this land as the "most beautiful Yao Ke coexistence promenade". In the design orientation, we put forward the concept of "local characteristic greenway. This concept embodies the two elements of "life" and "vitality. Through Living, we aim to protect national traditions through cultural intervention, provide livelihood security and achieve sustainable development of the community. Through Energetic, we are committed to creating vivid experiences that influence a wider audience through cultural communication and enhance the appeal here.
The project faces a variety of challenges, such as a large space environment span, the effect of traditional handicrafts, and the limitation of poverty alleviation funds. The design addresses these issues through strategic planning and design, a combination of modern and traditional craftsmanship; it also takes into account historical, social, and dual cultural integration factors to ensure its sustainability and affordability.
