The Design Process of Ocean Paradise
A document of the design conception process, which contains raw materials, drafts, computer models, and demonstrations of the production process.
The "Ocean Paradise" series mainly embodies the concept of sustainable development and the protection of the diversity of life on earth. The bottom of the work uses recycled 925 silver, and the calcite used above retains its original natural ore form to reflect the unique sense of nature itself. calcite has birefringence, can create the naked eye through the sea, the object inside the looming effect. Beneath the calcite is an aluminum sheet print, and the original drawing uses a hand-painted copy of the seal image from a Chinese painting. Between calcite and seals, the use of abandoned factory aquamarine is trying to get everyone to think about the impact of human marine debris on the biological chain. Aquamarine can move freely inside the interlayer. The dolphin on the pendant uses the leftover materials from the high quality jade bracelet for creation. The texture of the icy material is close to the skin texture of the dolphin leaping from the sea. This piece of work can be used as a brooch, pendant dual-purpose wear, can also be used as a small vertical ornaments.
Before making this work, the author has a long experience in the jewelry industry market. In the gemstone cutting area of Panyu, Guangzhou, many colored gemstones that have experienced many working hours are treated as waste because of poor clarity and collision. I have been thinking about how to make these raw materials, which have a lot of human labor time, play its value again. The collection of abandoned aquamarine in the factory is an attempt in the selection of materials for this work. In addition to aquamarine, I also collect some good quality jade raw materials, these raw materials are the bracelet cut after the scrap, usually triangular. I used the shape of this triangle to create the image of a dolphin in a sea creature. This kind of small bracelet scrap is usually made into common jade design motif such as leaves, ruyi, ping an buckle, etc. In this creation, I tried to find a breakthrough in material design innovation in this traditional intangible cultural heritage design theme.
