Invalid Exchange
"Invalid Exchange" is a collection of works under the same name as the "Young Artist Support Program" on gallery of the China Academy of Fine Arts. The color of the whole book continues the visual yellow and black colors of the exhibition owner. The cover of the book transforms the text information of the cover of the book through the text coding Unicode called "Universal Code", forming a visual paradox that seems invalid in the Chinese context but there is real information. The effective information is hidden under the symbol to form a reading barrier, which echoes the curator's demand, that is, "de-labeling, so that art and language, artists and communication can exchange invalid artistry."
The whole book is presented with a yellow-edged paperback craft, which reflects the weakening of the particularity of art. It shows the artist's works in a daily appearance, and once again points to the title "Invalid Exchange". Three different kinds of special paper distinguish the three parts of the book content. The soft and harmonious paper enhances the reading experience of the book.
The whole book presents a series of inexplicable "information codes" with a clear and unambiguous system of modern text arrangement, as the literary theorist Shawn Rosenheim (Shawn Rosenheim) called "code imagination": this is an attitude towards language, which recognizes the opacity and ambiguity of language, and constantly explores the actual meaning hidden behind the visible surface. This is exactly "invalid exchange".
