The "Public-Private" series designs a series of objects that can be placed in different functional spaces without restrictions on the direction of use by reorganizing the structural parts of the building, forming a household device suitable for both "public" and "private. It blurs its original function and use scene, breaks the definition and inherent prejudice defined by common sense in daily life, returns to the more real state of the object, and arouses the audience's thinking.
In terms of design, Co-Metabolism focuses on people's real living habits. Every piece of work in the "Public-Private Co-use" series does not have an exact function. The specific usage of tea table, chair, cabinet or sculpture is determined by users according to their real needs, just like people put clothes on the sofa or the back of the chair in daily life, this kind of article has always existed for the conversion and breaking of the original function. This series of works hopes to blur the function, blur the user, blur the use field, and return the power to define the article to the user.
In terms of social intervention, the "Public and Private Use" series focuses on metal parts that have public memory and are extremely important for the stability of the building structure. The fast daily life makes people ignore the subtle things around them. This series of works hopes to make people familiar and unfamiliar with large-scale industrial products intervene in the daily space of the home in a new way, and regain their thinking about the neighborhood in the process of watching and using.
In the aspect of environment, China has a mature supply chain in the field of production and manufacturing, and under this situation, a large amount of redundancy has also been produced. The works of co-metabolism are always expected to explore new possibilities under the heritage of the post-industrial era. The materials used in the series of "Public-Private Co-use" are recyclable acrylic plates, and new mold opening is no longer carried out by using existing metal parts, it does not involve new waste generated by mass production, but is reorganized on the basis of existing resources. Realize the value of industrial residue reconstruction, to provide another sustainable concept.
Co-Metabolism Studio is a design art research studio co-founded by designer Zhang Ning and artist Yang Yafei. The boundaries of his works extend from furniture and installations to images, interactive new media and other fields. The works of co-metabolism reactivate the mass-produced industrial metabolic products such as industrial components and blur their functions in space, return the public space and objects to the real needs of the moment, and intervene the daily art and art back to the daily life.
