The Central River was originally a drainage channel running through the Shenzhen Bay area. Due to the development of the city, the basin area has gradually become a financial center and an area dominated by high-end residential buildings. After careful transformation and optimization design, the central river has a new look and become an important leisure space to enhance the urban experience and serve the society. It is not only an important waterway of the city, but also the link between the culture and emotion of the area, and the emotional axis of the livable city.
Every year, the surrounding community residents will be staged here to participate in a spontaneous dragon boat race. This is not only a tribute to traditional culture, but also a true portrayal of the spirit of the city. Therefore, for this signage design, we distilled the paddle graphics into prominent symbols throughout the project. Under the limited spatial scale, the guiding sign takes the attitude of concession, incarnates as the shape of the oar, and appears beside the shade of trees, grassy slopes and steps according to local conditions, providing people with the experience of coexistence of functional guidance and spatial interest.
The narrow road space limits leisure behavior. Especially under the space constraint, the dynamic traffic demand conflicts with the static entertainment demand. Taking advantage of the central river's connectivity with shenzhen bay, we use ground art works depicting birds, swimming fish and beach scenes to depict two separate spaces for dynamic and tranquil activities. This separation ensures a reasonable allocation of space for both types of behavior.
Restricted by the conditions of road and bridge construction, the low space under the bridge was once dark and uncomfortable. Now, through artistic cultural graphics, with ecological diversity and cultural inheritance as the main content, it not only enriches the readability of space, but also becomes an effective medium and carrier of lighting arrangement. From the original dark and cramped, fast passage without stopping gray space, it has evolved into a valuable node space in linear roads that can stay, rest and stop.
From the perspective of guiding signs, intervening in the environmental background is a strategy of "subtle influence and grand. By using graphics with suggestive directions, instead of straight and stiff arrows, the affinity of the environment is improved. Serving the community and serving the citizens, a set of design language with pleasant scale and vivid form helps to shape the overall consciousness of the community.
After the completion of the project, it reshaped the commuting habits of the surrounding citizens. From the perspective of comfort and convenience, people in the surrounding communities generally transition from the previous sidewalk to walking along the river in daily work and school scenes. This change resulted in a significant increase in overall pleasure and community identity.
