Updating the image and guidance system for a village is like designing a new way to open it. Located in the northwest suburbs of Hangzhou, Qingshan Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides, winding hills, and has an excellent ecological environment. "Qingshan Qingshan Village", a language form that jumped out of the official administrative village name, naturally appeared in the process of going deep into the local area. The visual system takes "the power of nature" as its concept, and the logo image is generated from the geographical features. Lush green mountains, rapidly falling raindrops, and bamboo leaves that are often blown in the mountain breeze appear together as key elements, forming "word scenery".
The guide that connects the nodes of the village is composed of a series of overlapping signs. The elements are integrated into the villagers' daily life and the surrounding customs, making the whole simple and friendly. The pole-shaped form is inspired by the trunk of the tree and presents a growth state similar to that of the surrounding plants. Based on the ecological environment of the village, more vibrant content is added. Wind direction meters, wind speed meters, or bird nests interspersed in the woods are open to nature and integrated into the landscape. Aluminum alloy material and modular design to adapt to the rural "practical" needs, easy to remove, repair or replace, at the same time can withstand the wind and rain.
All guides are considered on a "community scale", encouraging people to contact the environment by cycling or walking, so that the physical landscape and guides can interact with perception.
1. ideas and concepts
Updating the image and guidance system for a village is like designing a new way to open it. Through design, we want to take people to see the roads, the landscape, the people, the plants, the animals in the village… to see how they are different from the everyday state of the city, and to respect them.
Before the overall visual design, we put forward the concept of "force of nature. "Force" can reflect a kind of initiative. At the same time, we hope that the graphic design we do is "communicative" and can resonate with the old villagers, new villagers and visitors living in today's era.
2. Chinese Characters and Vernacular
Chinese characters is an important way to reflect the local. The people in Qingshan Village still have a lot of local flavor inherited from the traditional Chinese farming society. We found the cards that carried out the literacy movement during the Republic of China, with various reduplicative words that are convenient to remember, such as "tree tree" and "mywood", which inspired us to use the reduplicative form in the overall design of Qingshan Village. At the same time, we will be more inclined to use verbs rather than nouns, because verbs will be more interactive and dynamic. For example, we used a "sun" on the big lawn, hoping that people who come here can be more relaxed. The sign of the stop sign uses "stop", which is a more friendly way of guidance. At the same time, Chinese characters themselves are polysemous, and everyone can interpret them in their own way.
In order to reflect the image of the whole village more fully, we observed the products, animals and people in Qingshan Village, and finally drew a number of icons representing different contents. The way of drawing is clumsy, and the rough brushstrokes are retained on the drawing. There will be common local cattle, clothes hanging on bamboo poles......
3. in the ground and natural growth
In the choice of guide form, we look for the direction of "small and beautiful", and we want the whole guide system to be in a state of "natural growth.
The tree and bamboo rod shape of Castle Peak Village inspired us to incorporate it into the guide design. Different levels of information grow on the pole-shaped guide trunk. The metal rods that make up the guide card are linear, corresponding to the trunk of the tree, as well as the stems of crops and other plants. The information panels with text and graphics correspond to the large lake and fields in the village.
Based on the ecological environment of Qingshan Village, we have integrated more vibrant content into the guidance system. Therefore, some guide rods are equipped with anemometers and anemometers, which will rotate when there is natural wind. In addition, we have designed some modules to take care of other creatures besides people, such as bird's nests interspersed in the woods. The T-shaped structure at the top of the guide card on the side of the reservoir is a bird drop pole that allows birds to stop on it.
We didn't do anything very eye-catching on the scale of the guide, but designed it on the "community scale. Some small signs will also appear in the alleys near the houses to avoid disturbing the people.
The assembly of the guide uses a modular design for easy disassembly and maintenance, and the components are specially developed to design custom connectors. In the selection of materials, we consider the "practical" that the countryside pays attention ". When people in the countryside evaluate whether an item is good or not, they are actually emphasizing durability and durability. The choice of relatively durable and affordable aluminum alloy will be more appropriate.
